FLYING AMERICAN FLAG

« PIONEER SPIRIT » BY MICHELLE AND KIM.

AMERICAN VALUES, PASSED THROUGH GENERATIONS, HAVE PRODUCED A DIVERSE CULTURE OF INDIVIDUALS DRIVEN TO EXERCISE THEIR IMAGINATION IN ANY DIMENSION.

HERE ARE OUR STORIES FOR WWW.OFF-THE-RECORDMESSAGING.COM

  • MICHELLE FORSHNER

MY ANCESTORS WERE AMONGST THE FIRST BRITISH SETTLERS TO COLONIZE NORTH AMERICA IN THE EARLY 1600s.

I HAVE LIVED ALL OF MY 28 YEARS IN CALIFORNIA. MY FAMILLY HAS ALWAYS INSTILLED A DEEP AND INSPIRING « PIONEER SPIRIT » THAT SET THE GROUNDWORK FOR MY EDUCATION AND CAREER, PARTICULARLY MY MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND GREAT-GRANDMOTHER.

FOR ME, THERE IS NO OTHER PATH, BUT TO FOLLOW MY DREAMS – NO MATTER WHAT THEY MAY BE.

I HOLD A B.A. AND WORK AT A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT WORKS TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO UNDERPRIVILEDGED HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS IN SAN FRANCISCO TO ATTEND COLLEGE.

  •  KIM RIVERA

SPANISH WAS MY FIRST LANGUAGE, BUT I AM ONLY PARTIALLY FLUENT TODAY. BORN IN PUERTO RICO AND RAISED IN THE MIDWEST, I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AS FEMALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE AND WAS THE FIRST IN MY EXTENDED FAMILY TO GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE.

THEN THERE WAS THE MASTER’S, WITH HONORS.

I HAVE WORKED AS AN ARCHITECT FOR 23 YEARS – THANKS TO MY HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR WHO SUGGESTED THE FIELD.

COPING WITH THE REALITY OF UNEMPLOYMENT OVER THE PAST YEAR HAS OPENED MY EYES TO NEW OPPORTUNITIES.

I LOOK FORWARD TO TOMORROW KNOWING THAT IF I WORK HARD, I CAN DO ANYTHING.

WE WERE TAUGHT TO BE STRONG WHEN TIMES ARE TOUGH, TO THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX AND TO BE OURSELVES.

GROWING UP IN VASTLY DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS, WE WERE TOUGHT SIMILAR VALUES : A CONSCIOUSNESS OF NATIONALITY.

LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT.
