Saturday 11th April – The 109th Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournament of the year, gets underway at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

The official kick-off took place on Saturday morning at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Club. The world number one and Monaco Yacht club member, Novak Djokovic, and the defending champion, Stan Wawrinka participated in a mini-tennis exhibition on the spectacular Regatta Deck of this spectacular building designed by Norman Foster and launched in June 2014.  

The two champions arrived all smiling happy to discover the amazing and unique 360° view over the Palace, the Marina, the Casino and the sea. Winner in 2013, Novak Djokovic is willing to try and get his home Trophy back, especially after winning back to back Indian Wells and Miami.   

After some photos taken and a few interviews, the Defender participated in the main draw ceremony of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in the Monaco Yacht Club lounge.

The Swiss hand put Novak Djokovic in the same half as the eight-time winner Rafael Nadal (ATP 3). Wawrinka also granted himself with a possible quarter-final match against his friend and country-fellow Roger Federer. 

Therefore, there will be no remake of the 2014 100% Swiss final.

In the afternoon, another exhibition called “Marin & Friends” took place on the centre court of the Monte-Carlo Country Club. 

Initiated from the Monaco resident and US open winner, Marin Cilic, this exhibition in aid of the following  Monaco charities: “Special Olympics” launched by HSH Princess Charlène de Monaco and « Fight Aids Monaco » presided by HSH Princess Stéphanie de Monaco. Marin Cilic played against Andrea Seppi.

Rafael Nadal and Grigor Dimitrov also came to play. As well as Novak Djokovic who made a surprise show up on the centre court.
